Youth Leaders Meeting Recap for 6/26

The First Coast USBC Youth Leaders Chapter held their annual membership meeting on Sunday June 26th at Bowl America Southside.  During this meeting several bowlers joined the group, the bylaws were updated, and elections were held to determine officers for the upcoming year.

Welcome brand new members to Youth Leaders — Alex Evans & Kyle Johns representing King Pins, and Ethan Torrent representing Bowl America Orange Park.  Bowlers from all centers are encouraged to join; we’d like to have at least 2 from each center participate going forward.

The bylaws were updated based on recommendations from the Youth Committee Chairperson, removing language for non-merged associations, adding (reinstating) the Youth Leader of the Year award, and clarifying the dress code.

Local Chapter Election Results: Liz Speight was voted in as President, Matthew Waters was voted in as Vice President, and Chyna Romedy was voted in as Sergeant at Arms.  Their terms officially begin August 1st, 2016. Congratulations!

Lastly, we’d like to thank Harley Romedy for her years of service and dedication to both the local and state Youth Leaders programs. Harley served as our local Youth Leaders President and as the Zone 1 Director for the State.  Harley will be going to the University of Pikeville this fall, bowling for their team on scholarship!  Her sister, Chyna, was elected this weekend as the new Zone 1 Director, with Briana Pisani being elected as the Director-at-large.

The next local Youth Leaders meeting will likely occur in August — once determined, details will be posted on this website.

2016 State Scholarship Tourney Results

Over the past 4 weekends, youth bowlers from around the state traveled to New Port Richey & Spring Hill to compete for scholarships — bowling in teams, doubles and individually.  Several bowlers from the First Coast USBC did really well and we’d like to recognize performances in the top 15%.

(Note: 1 in 12 entries for team, doubles & singles will earn scholarships… roughly the top 8%.  For the “All Events” results, only the top 2 in each division earn scholarships.)

14 FCUSBC Youth Bowlers to compete in Junior Gold Championships

This July, 14 youth bowlers from our association will travel to Indianapolis, IN to compete in the Junior Gold Championships.  This is an annual, national scholarship tournament for the top youth bowlers in the United States, where entry to the tournament is earned through qualifying events (not by simply paying an entry fee).  The Junior Gold Championships uses multiple, unannounced “sport shot” oil patterns, over several days, that challenge the bowlers beyond what a “typical house shot” pattern or tournament would.

Below you will find the qualifiers’ names, division, and tournament in which they earned their entry to the national championships:

Alex Evans, U12 Boys – Storm Survivor Tournament

CJ Lloyd, U12 Boys – FCUSBC Scholarship Tournament

John Nunn, U12 Boys – Jacksonville Jr. Bowling Tour

Thomas McLaughlin Jr., U15 Boys – American Legion Auxillary

Trezure Connelly, U15 Girls – Georgia Youth Bowling Tour

Liz Speight, U15 Girls – FCUSBC Travel League

Jacob Bassell, U20 Boys – FCUSBC Travel League

David Dedman, U20 Boys – FCUSBC Travel League

Ryan Franz, U20 Boys – Jacksonville Jr. Bowling Tour

Alex Pierce, U20 Boys – FCUSBC Youth City Championship

Vishnu Sagi, U20 Boys – Jacksonville Jr. Bowling Tour

Marisol Dodson, U20 Girls – FCUSBC Scholarship Tournament

Heather Duncan, U20 Girls – Georgia Youth Bowling Tour

Harley Romedy, U20 Girls – FCUSBC Youth City Championship

10 of the 14 entries were awarded through tournaments / leagues sponsored by the First Coast USBC.  For more about Junior Gold membership or qualifying events, please contact your coach or visit bowl.com.  Best of luck to the bowlers, and be looking for an update with their results in late July!

6/26 Youth Leaders Annual Meeting & Elections

The FCUSBC Youth Leaders chapter will hold its Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 26th @ 1:30pm, at Bowl America Southside.  Elections will be held during this meeting for all officer positions (President, Vice President, Office Manager & Sergeant at Arms).  A minimum of 8 Youth Leaders members is required to hold the elections; however, anyone wishing to join Youth Leaders should attend this meeting and may be able to participate in voting/running for office.

If you are interested in running for office, please send an e-mail to fcusbcyouth@gmail.com to receive an “Intent to Run” form.  Additionally, if you are an existing Youth Leader that cannot physically attend this meeting or have any questions, contact Harley Romedy or send an e-mail to fcusbcyouth@gmail.com.

Bowl FREE this Summer

Youth bowlers have a great opportunity during the Summer to bowl two games each day for FREE!  There are 2 programs — “Kids Bowl Free” and “Summer Blast Pass” — where parents can register their children for the center of their choice.  Once registered online, you’ll receive a weekly e-mail with personalized coupons/passes to print & bring to the center.  Please refer to each program’s website (provided below) for all of the details, as they are not identical.  Spread the word to your friends — it’s a great way to work on your game and introduce others to youth bowling!
