Under-15/Under-12 Baker Teams Forming!

This January at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, teams of bowlers in the Under-15 and Under-12 age groups will compete in the USA Bowling Coastal South Regional tournament.  This is a two-day “Baker format” team competition, where the champions all advance to the National tournament — held concurrently with National Junior Gold competition in July of each year (2017 is in Cleveland, OH).

Our association participated in the regional tournament last year with a U15 team and two U12 teams; one of the U12 teams won all their matches on Day 1 and eventually finished in 2nd place.  Once again, we would like to extend the invite to all U15/U12 youth bowlers in the First Coast USBC to form teams for this unique competition.  The entry deadline is fast approaching, so if you are ready to join one of our teams please send an e-mail to fcusbcyouth@gmail.com or speak to Donna Evans at King Pins Bowling Center.  There is a practice session being held Friday 12/2 @ Nassau Bowling Center, where the team rosters will be finalized.
The regional competition begins Saturday 1/14/2017, where every team will play eight (8) Baker game matches to determine seeding in the double-elimination bracket round.  On Sunday 1/15/2017, teams play heads-up Baker matches (best 2 out of 3) in a double-elimination bracket.

In case you were wondering… “Baker Style” refers to a team rotating bowlers for each frame of a game.  In this competition, a team can have 4-6 bowlers on their roster but 4 bowlers rotate frames.  For example, the first bowler plays the entire 1st, 5th & 9th frames of the game; the second bowler plays the 2nd, 6th & 10th frames; the third bowler plays the 3rd and 7th frames; the fourth bowler plays the 4th and 8th frames.  Lineups can be changed for every game, and substitutes are allowed within a game.

2016-2017 City Tournament Results

The results are in (well, most of them)… 156 youth bowlers competed in this year’s Annual Youth City Championship Tournament this past weekend (32 more than last year)!

Unofficial results are now posted on the Annual City Tournament page.  At this time, the All Events Handicap & All Events Scratch results, plus the amounts of scholarships for each division, are not finalized.  Check back within the next week or so for the final results!

Thanks again to King Pins Bowling Center & Batt Family Fun Center for hosting the event — and for the dedicated volunteers that helped to run the tournament.  Of course, we thank all of the parents, relatives and coaches for their support!

2016 Landen Results

The annual Bill & Millie Landen Memorial Scholarship tournament was held the first weekend in November (11/5-11/6) at Alley Gatorz in Gainesville.  Quite a number of youth bowlers represented the First Coast USBC in this challenging test — 3 sets of 5 games each on different sport shot oil patterns, followed by a 5-person step-ladder finale.

In the handicap division, Elizabeth Ferguson finished in 3rd place and earned scholarship money.  Additionally, this tournament offered a Junior Gold qualifier.  Three bowlers from our area earned their spot in the National Junior Gold Championships, which will be held in July 2017 in Cleveland,OH — John Nunn, Kyle Johns, and Matthew Jordan.

Congratulations to all bowlers who competed this past weekend!

Last call for 2016 City Tournament Teams

The deadline for centers to submit entries to the Annual Youth City Championship is Friday 11/4.  If you are interested in competing in this tournament but do not yet have a team formed, contact your Youth Director.  We can form “association teams” where team members bowl at different centers/leagues, but time is running out!  No “walk-in teams” will be accepted; however, you may ask to be on a waiting list in case another bowler cannot attend.  Either way, talk to your center’s Youth Director today!

Upcoming Events – November 2016

Youth Bowlers,

October was certainly an interesting month (thanks to Hurricane Matthew) but we made it through and held a few more tournaments.  Here’s what we have to look forward to in November (beyond your weekly bowling leagues):
